When I was young, I was terrified of 4 things: the wicked witch in Snow White, the police, God, and ghosts. I thought I should cross at least one thing off that list, so I went to my mother and asked her if ghosts were real. I was pretty certain that my physician mother would assure me that there was nothing to fear.
"Well… no one knows for sure," she said diplomatically.
Oh God, help me.
My mom was my pediatrician, and when I went in to the office for shots, I felt I had to put on a brave face for the other kids. What would it do to my mom's rep if her own kid was afraid of shots? So I forced myself never to cry as I was getting jabbed.
I'm taking a break from waxing body hair so I have lush armpit hair and a colony of leg hairs, and it's liberating. But also, I have a great role model – my mom has never shaved or waxed and yet she's still confident, fearless, and feminine.
I've always wanted to be fearless like my mother – she is an immigrant and lived away from her family as young as 11 years old. She's lived in Taiwan, Libya, Malta, Jamaica, Alabama, New York – all before she became a freshman in college. Since then she has traveled all 7 continents, often toting me along.
My mom isn't really into TV – she especially hates tv medical dramas ("Why would I want to watch what I do at work when I get home from work?), and she's so-so on Game of Thrones, but I couldn't help but pay homage to her fearlessness and world-conquering with this Mother's Day Card – featuring none other than the Mother of Dragons herself, Daenerys Stormborn. Inside, the card reads, "Happy Mother's Day to the most epic woman I know."
If the epic mother in your life needs this card, get 20% off when you use the promo code FAY (my mom's name) applicable on all greeting cards until Mother's Day!
XOXO
