This email is about the future of Greenpeace

Kathleen-

Hey! My name's Vanessa. I work here at Greenpeace. I know you're busy, but I wanted to take a moment to tell you a little about my decade-long journey as a Greenpeace activist, and why the work we do together matters in changing our democracy over time to be more about people — not profits, politicians pandering for power, or middle-of-the-road climate policies. Be part of the Greenpeace family during this crucial time in America by becoming a member today.

My story begins in 2005 when I was 19, fighting the construction of a nuclear power mega-project near my hometown in Ontario, Canada.

I turned up at a local Greenpeace meeting and was floored by what was on the agenda: The people there wanted to fundamentally change how our power system operated. I had never met a group of people with such a bold vision before. I was immediately given the tools I needed to advocate for local renewable energy and block the nuke plant. And, off I went (clipboard in hand) to spread the word.

Fast forward to now — I'm 33 and on staff with Greenpeace's climate team. With the financial support of people like you, I helped stop seismic testing and offshore drilling in all U.S. waters (a huge recent win!); I've hung off buildings attached to giant banners demanding climate action from world leaders; and, I was part of organizing the biggest climate march of all time in New York City.

Greenpeace gave me the tools to fight for what's right. And, with the 2020 presidential elections coming up, I'm not even close to being done yet. It's time for all of us to put our voices together, be bolder, stronger, and to rise up during this important time in American politics. And, it starts with contributions from caring and dedicated people like you.

Donate now to make climate a priority this presidential primary season and help sustain all our important work.

Let me explain what we have planned this campaign season and why.

In the past two years, Trump has attempted to divide us and wear us down. But I refuse to let him discourage us or get in the way of a people-powered energy future.

That's why our team has big plans this summer to make visionary climate action a priority during the Democratic Party presidential primary — what we're calling #Climate2020. We're recruiting thousands of activists to follow every candidate on the campaign trail and make sure they commit to real solutions to the climate crisis. The stronger the whole Democratic pack is on climate, the better chance we have of seeing real climate action on the timeline needed to avoid climate catastrophe.

But, in order to make our #Climate2020 campaign happen and defeat the current anti-environment agenda, we need you to throw down too.

Help win game-changing climate campaigns this presidential primary season with us and support all we do for the planet! Become a monthly donor now.

The fight for a more green and peaceful world is fought day to day, across election seasons, and over decades. It's a long, hard, and expensive process — especially when our country is starved for bold leadership, big action, and creative solutions from our elected officials.

By making a contribution today to support all our important work, you're investing in our climate and helping move us away from a society that extracts resources from people and the earth, then throws them away without a care.

Donate now.

In it for the long haul,

Vanessa Butterworth
Senior Online Climate Campaigner, Greenpeace USA

P.S. One last thing. Our non-violent, people-powered protests can and do work. Last month, Interior Secretary David Bernhardt announced that the Trump administration would indefinitely sideline plans to expand offshore gas drilling in U.S. waters. Victories like this only happen because of your donations, petition signatures, calls, emails, protests, and participation. Please consider donating today to keep up the relentless resistance!

Greenpeace never takes a dime from corporations or governments. Everything we do is thanks to the generous support of people like you!
