A Wrong Turn for Biden

Image

Kathleen-

Did you see that Joe Biden is pursuing a "middle ground" climate policy as part of his presidential platform today? Outrage, much?!

Here's the rundown: Biden wants the United States to recommit to the Paris agreement, but won't endorse a Green New Deal or responsibly phase out coal, oil, and gas. Meaning, the Democratic candidate that's leading in the polls won't get us anywhere close to what the science says is needed to avoid climate catastrophe.

This is so maddening because Biden has a huge opportunity to move the whole Democratic party on climate change and take a real stance against current anti-environment policies. But it's clear that he won't lead on climate change unless people like you and me push him.

Tell Joe Biden to announce a robust climate plan now that phases out fossil fuels for good and gives us a Green New Deal!

We've spent the past two years resisting Trump's pro-oil agenda. He has attempted to divide us and wear us down. But we've fought back — relentlessly. Now, if we're really going to cut greenhouse gases in half in 10 years, every single Democratic candidate running for high office needs to endorse a Green New Deal and promise to phase out coal, gas, and oil if they win.

That's why we're launching our newest campaign to make visionary climate action a priority this primary season ➡️ #Climate2020.

From here on out, we'll tirelessly work with hundreds of thousands of people like you to make sure no Democratic presidential candidate will be able to simply acknowledge the existence of climate change in public remarks without a real plan to take action.

And we're starting with Joe Biden because he's leading in the polls and is coming up VERY short on putting forward real solutions to the climate crisis.

Sign the petition telling Biden to move the whole Democratic field towards real climate action.

We know there's a lot at stake with the 2020 election. Instead of creating goals for communities to thrive together with healthy air, water, and shared access to clean energy, the calls of "fake news" and "build a wall" have put communities in conflict with one another.

But "middle ground" approaches are not enough to win the White House in 2020. We need presidential candidates with the guts to move us toward a healthier and more prosperous future where we reject the politics of pandering and confront the billionaires who are threatening the planet. That means saying NO to fossil fuels and YES to a just and equitable Green New Deal.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Sen. Bernie Sanders have already come out with visionary climate plans. This shows we're building momentum, but this election is just heating up. If Biden comes out strong for the Green New Deal and promises to end the age of oil, the rest of the pack will be guaranteed to follow — and we'll cement bold climate action as a major priority in the upcoming presidential primaries.

Add your name now.

Let's get all the presidential candidates to commit to say #NoToFossilFuels and get a little bit closer to the future we need,

P.S. Our work to get the whole Democratic field to promise to stop drilling for fossil fuels on public lands is so important. This type of bold action is the only way we'll be able to take on Big Oil and fossil fuel pollution — and move to a 100% renewable energy economy that creates millions of high-quality jobs while putting community health first. People's lives, homes, and livelihoods are at stake. As they say, if you're in a hole (like we are on climate) — stop digging (for fossil fuels, of course 🙃).

We think that Biden should commit to a Green New Deal and say #NoToFossilFuels. Sign here if you're with us.
