Sign the petition: Stephen Miller has got to go

Tell Congress: Hate has no place in the White House

The petition to Congress reads:
"White nationalist Stephen Miller developed some of the Trump administration's most cruel and racist anti-immigrant policies. To protect our communities, we must call on Congress to introduce and pass non-binding resolutions in both chambers that formally and publicly condemn Miller and his hateful agenda."

Dear Katy,

Tell Congress: Hate has no place in the White House

It's now more clear than ever: White nationalist Stephen Miller's sole purpose in the Trump administration is to normalize and institutionalize racist anti-immigrant hate.

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) recently released a series of disturbing reports that provide undeniable proof of Miller's ties to white supremacists and his commitment to make hate law.1 Congress must use all the tools at its disposal to rein him in now.

More than 100 Democrats have already called on Miller to resign, but that is not enough.2 To build the power we need to get Miller out of the White House, we must push Congress to introduce resolutions that condemn his racism and force every member of Congress to make clear where they stand.

Tell Congress: Hate has no place in the White House. Click here to sign the petition.

SPLC's series of reports analyzing 900 leaked emails between Miller and staffers at extremist media outlet Breitbart are setting off alarms. The reports reveal that not only is Miller parroting anti-immigrant policies and ideas developed by known eugenicists and white nationalists, but also campaigning to make them law.

As Trump's immigration czar, Miller is succeeding at bringing those racist ideas, once considered fringe, to the mainstream and institutionalizing them. Separating families, ending the refugee program, DACA and TPS, enacting the Muslim ban, and forcing asylum seekers to remain in Mexico come straight out of Miller's nativist playbook. Worse, these policies are being enforced by many racist officials that Miller helped install in key government positions.

So far, Miller's hateful agenda has gone unchecked. But we cannot stand by while he and xenophobes like him continue to consolidate power. Getting every Democrat and Republican of good conscience to publicly and formally condemn Miller and his white supremacist agenda will help us build up the momentum we need to push him out.

Dear Katy,

Tell Mitch McConnell: Recuse yourself from Trump's impeachment trial

"No court in the country would allow a member of the jury to also serve as the accused's defense attorney."1 But that's Mitch McConnell's plan for Donald Trump's impeachment trial in the Senate.

McConnell recently declared on Fox News that he will not be an impartial juror in the upcoming impeachment trial, saying that he's "coordinating with the White House counsel. There will be no difference between the president's position and our position as to how to handle this to the extent that we can."2

Senate rules require all members of the Senate, who act as jurors in the impeachment trial, to swear under oath to remain impartial.3 McConnell is stacking the deck ahead of time to ensure an unfair and completely biased trial to keep Trump in office. He must recuse himself immediately.

Tell Mitch McConnell: Recuse yourself from Trump's impeachment trial. Click here to sign the petition.

Last week, the House Judiciary Committee voted to send two articles of impeachment to the House floor for a vote – abuse of power and obstruction of Congress – and the full House of Representatives is expected to vote on Wednesday to impeach Trump and forward the process to the Senate for a trial, likely beginning in mid-January.

After McConnell admitted on live television that he would do everything he could to rig the impeachment trial in "total coordination" with Trump's White House, Rep. Val Demings accused McConnell of sabotaging the trial and violating his oath to remain impartial ahead of time, demanding that McConnell recuse himself.4 A growing chorus of Democrats are joining the call to prevent a sham trial with McConnell's predetermined outcome in the Senate.5

McConnell's blatant disregard for the Constitution in order to keep a misogynistic, racist criminal in the White House is beyond reprehensible. We must demand that he recuse himself immediately and increase the pressure on every Republican to ensure the trial is fair and legitimate. Click the link below to sign the petition:

Dear Katy,

Call Rep. DeGette now: Vote no on Trump's NAFTA 2.0 trade deal

Speaker Pelosi is on the verge of handing Donald Trump a big victory less than 24 hours after impeaching him.

Last week, she announced House Democratic leadership's support for Trump's NAFTA 2.0 trade deal, also known as the United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement. While the deal includes some improvements over the original NAFTA, it falls far short of what's needed on climate change and it won't stop the continued outsourcing of manufacturing jobs to Mexico. We can and must do better.

The House of Representatives is expected to vote on NAFTA 2.0 today.1 Can you make an urgent phone call to Rep. DeGette now demanding that she votes no?

Call Rep. DeGette: Vote no on Trump's NAFTA 2.0 trade deal. Click here for a script and the number to call.

Last week, 10 of the top environmental groups in the country – including Sierra Club, 350.org, Friends of the Earth and Sunrise Movement – sent a letter to members of Congress asking them to vote no on NAFTA 2.0. As the letter notes, NAFTA 2.0 "poses very real threats to our climate and communities and ignores nearly all of the fundamental environmental fixes consistently outlined by the environmental community."2

There's no question that NAFTA is a disaster and that it must be replaced. But we believe that the next Democratic administration can negotiate a new trade agreement between the United States, Canada and Mexico that is better for both working people and the planet. Can you call Rep. DeGette now?

Tell the Senate: Convict Donald Trump

Petition to the Senate:
"Convict Donald Trump on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress and remove him from office."

Dear Katy,

Tell the Senate: Convict Donald Trump

For the third time in our nation's history, the House of Representatives just voted to impeach the person occupying the White House.

Now, the articles of impeachment – charges of abuse of power and obstruction of justice – go before the full Senate, which acts as a jury.

Trump's attempted bribery and extortion and his threats to our democracy are plain for all to see. His conviction depends on Republicans putting democracy before party – and that will require massive public pressure.

Tell the Senate: Convict Donald Trump and remove him from office. Click here to sign the petition.

We already proved that public pressure delivers results. When progressives, working with champions Reps. Al Green and Rashida Tlaib and other fearless congresswomen of color, first started pushing for impeachment, establishment Democrats resisted and publicly fought the idea. It was only after months and months of sustained grassroots pressure from CREDO activists and others that Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats got on board. Now, we need the same outcry turned upon the Senate.

The impeachment hearings in the House show us what to expect in the Senate. Instead of showing they were serious about getting the facts, House Republicans mounted a ridiculous performance intended to appease Trump's fragile ego. They suggested both the Departments of State and Justice were plotting against Trump, ignored serious questions, dabbled in conspiracy theories, attacked witnesses, blamed the Bidens and attempted to out the Ukraine whistleblower.

Trump has essentially committed bribery to get the jury of senators on his side. He is wooing Republican senators by helping them raise money at events and by deploying his campaign email list to fundraise for them. And Mitch McConnell is delivering. He has repeatedly been clear that he will be working lockstep with the White House and has rejected Democrats' efforts to agree on a bipartisan plan for the Senate trial.

Only a massive outcry from voters can force Republican senators to take protecting our democracy seriously. It will take phone calls, rallies, and public actions – and it starts with people like you speaking out right now.
