CREDO action
Tell Sen. McCain: Don't let Trump discriminate against our transgender troops

The petition to Sen. John McCain, Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee reads:
"Trump's attempt to ban transgender people from serving in the military is bigoted, hateful and dangerous. Ensure the National Defense Authorization Act blocks and prohibits Trump's discriminatory transgender troops ban."

Dear Katy,

Transgender Equality

Donald Trump and his bigoted White House staff are attacking the LGBTQ community – yet again. Last week he took to Twitter to announce his intention to reinstate a hateful and discriminatory ban on transgender people serving in the military.1

Trump's direct assault on transgender people is grounded, like most of his hateful decisions, in blatant lies. In his unhinged Twitter announcement, Trump claimed that he arrived at his decision after "consultation with my Generals (sic) and military experts"2 – but the Pentagon press office reportedly "didn't know anything about" Trump's decision.3

Chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC) Sen. John McCain has already spoken out against a transgender ban in the military. Sen. McCain also made the right decision late last night when he joined his fellow Republican Sens. Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski to team up with the Senate Democrats and cast a dramatic vote to block Trumpcare on the Senate floor. Now Sen. McCain can do the right thing again by putting his words into action and using the currently pending defense policy bill to stand up to Trump and block this hateful and discriminatory proposal.

Tell Sen. McCain: Stand up to Trump's bigotry. Ensure that the National Defense Authorization Act blocks and prohibits Trump's discriminatory transgender troops ban. Click here to sign the petition.

Trump launched his vile and ugly attack against transgender people based on a debunked, extreme right-wing talking point couched in policy. The fact is, there is no evidence that there ever have been or will be high costs for treating transgender people in the military. According to a recent report,4 the estimated cost of medical care for transgender people serving in the military is about 0.0014 percent of Trump's total defense budget proposal.5 For context, the amount of taxpayer money Trump has spent so far this year on trips to Mar-a-Lago trips is significantly higher than the projected cost of providing transgender troops with vital health services.6 This is not about conserving resources, this is about discrimination.

The majority of Americans support equal protection under the law for LGBTQ Americans, but in most states, people can be fired from their jobs, evicted from their apartments, or denied services because of their sexual orientation or gender identity and presentation.7 By making incendiary, bigoted policy proposals like banning transgender people from military service, Trump is not only refusing to create a climate of safety and inclusion, he is also proactively attempting to dismantle the rights of LGBTQ people. Elected officials who stigmatize and target LGBTQ people contributes to a larger social context of intolerance. According to a 2009 survey, more than half of LGBTQ people in the United States expect to be a victim of a hate crime.8

Speaking more to the incompetency of the messenger than the abhorrent nature of the message, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford, the highest ranking military officer in the country, said in a letter that tweets do not equal policy change, and that Donald Trump's Twitter flurry will have no impact on current policy.9

However, as we have seen with the Muslim ban, Trump does not give up on his illegal and unconstitutional attempts at institutionalizing his bigotry easily. We need to ensure that protections for trans troops are enshrined in law.

Tell Sen. McCain: Stand up to Trump's bigotry. Ensure that the National Defense Authorization Act blocks and prohibits Trump's discriminatory transgender troops ban. Click here to sign the petition.

It is telling that even some congressional Republicans are breaking with Trump on this attempt to discriminate against transgender servicemen and women.

Sen. McCain – who was one of the last and loudest Republican voices against allowing LGBTQ people to openly serve in the military in 201010 – spoke out strongly against Trump's bigoted proposal (emphasis added):

"There is no reason to force service members who are able to fight, train and deploy to leave the military – regardless of their gender identity. We should all be guided by the principle that any American who wants to serve our country and is able to meet the standards should have the opportunity to do so – and should be treated as the patriots they are."11

Sen. McCain is right but needs to keep backing his strong words with action. As chairman of the SASC he has the power to take real action by ensuring that the National Defense Authorization Act of 2018 – the law that specifies the budget every year for the Department of Defense – includes measures that protect transgender people from discrimination in the military.

The dramatic defeat of Trumpcare showed our activism works. A strong display of grassroots support on our petition will help show Sen. McCain that his legacy is on the line with the rights of transgender troops. Click the link below to sign the petition:

Resist: Congress must act before Trump fires Mueller

CREDO action
Tell Congress: Trump investigation must be truly independent

Petition to Congress:
"Ensure the independence of criminal investigations and protect the rule of law. Protect special prosecutor Mueller from Trump's abuse of power and restore the independent counsel statute as enacted in the Ethics in Government Act of 1978."

Dear Katy,

Tell Congress: Trump investigation must be truly independent

It increasingly seems like a question of when – not if – Donald Trump will fire Robert Mueller, the special prosecutor investigating his ties to Russia and likely obstruction of justice.

Trump has openly mused about firing Mueller in public interviews, and his team is digging up dirt on the special prosecutor. It appears that as soon as Mueller digs too deep, Trump will try to stymie the investigation yet again.1 The White House is falling into chaos amidst deep disagreement on how to handle the Mueller investigation, with some reports claiming Trump fired Chief of Staff Reince Priebus with a tweet.

But as we proved recently by blocking Trumpcare in the Senate for now, intense and unyielding public pressure can sway even Republicans to resist Trump. Congress must immediately pass a law that would protect an independent counsel like Mueller from Trump's abuse of power and prevent this dangerous and out-of-control occupant of the White House from triggering a constitutional crisis by firing Mueller.

Tell Congress: Trump investigation must be truly independent. Protect special counsel Mueller from Trump's abuse of power. Click here to sign the petition.

Not long ago, a post-Watergate law was in place that protected the rule of law from presidential overreach. The Ethics in Government Act of 1978 set up a system to ensure that special prosecutors would be totally independent officials that a group of judges would appoint and no president could fire. But in the 1990s, Republicans and Democrats teamed up to let the independent counsel statute expire.2

Mueller, by contrast, owes his current post to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who picked him after Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself. Unlike the independent counsels of the 1980s, Mueller is a special prosecutor serving at the whim of Trump's own Department of Justice.3 That means that Trump could order Rosenstein to fire Mueller, sparking a constitutional firestorm with the executive branch seeking to crush the rule of law to protect its grip on power.

Congress can prevent this nightmare scenario – but we cannot afford to wait until after it happens. Instead, legislators must make it clear that they will force the White House to obey the law by protecting Mueller's investigation and keeping it independent of Trump overreach..

Tell Congress: Trump investigation must be truly independent. Protect special counsel Mueller from Trump's abuse of power. Click here to sign the petition.

Democratic Sen. Cory Booker and Republican Lindsey Graham are working on a bipartisan bill that would prevent Mueller from being fired without a judicial review.4 But with an illegitimate autocrat occupying the White House, our system of laws needs the strongest possible defense – so Congress should restore the original post-Watergate rules, as well.

We need to send a message that no White House is above the law. Congress must step up now to make sure we have a truly independent investigation of Trump.

What Is Airbnb?

Airbnb is an online commercial center where visitors go to discover a bed to stay and has list their room/property for lease.

It is particularly similar to a lodging, be that as it may, visitors remain in the hosts home, and visitors don't get the standard ruffles of inn attendant. I'll go over the master's and con's of airbnb later.

Airbnb works in around 35 000 urban areas and in 200 nations. When you go to another city, you require some place to remain. You may pick a lodging, or possibly an inn, however Airbnb allows you to live in another person's home. This might be exactly what you're searching for, or it may not be. In any case, Airbnb is commonly less expensive than your conventional lodging. Also, that is a gigantic favorable position for Airbnb.

How Does Airbnb Work? The procedure

How Guests Use Airbnb

As a visitor, you look through the properties recorded in the city you are searching for a room in. A coolest aspect regarding Airbnb is that they have pretty much every kind of "room" accessible. You can discover only a solitary room (like leasing a solitary room back home), a whole house, condo, a chateau, estate, and even vessels like yachts.

As you channel your outcomes, you can see pictures of housing and read the host's profile to perceive what sort of individual they are. Now and then you will be living with the host, and now and then the host won't be there (you have the whole convenience to yourself). Whatever the case, you need to know who you will be leasing from.

You'll discover this data as you read the convenience portrayal. You will likewise need to message the host if this data isn't clear. You can message the host and make inquiries about the settlement or anything truly. I think this is a critical stride, since you get the chance to perceive what your host resembles. One of the greatest grievance about utilizing Airbnb is that the host wasn't satisfactory.

You can channel your outcomes by numerous things, in particular value, area, sort of settlement, courtesies, and close to specific purposes of intrigue. When you discover something you like, I'd message the property have and pose some broad inquiries you'll probably have. Above all, you need to ensure the property is accessible for the date you need it.

In the event that you need to proceed with the reservation, you present your reservation with your installment data. Presently, Airbnb will gather your installment after the host acknowledges your demand. In case the host decays your demand, no cash will be gathered. Once the host acknowledges your installment, your cash will be "held" via Airbnb until 24 hours after you check in. They have this approach set up to guarantee the two gatherings are content with their exchange. I figure 24 hours is sufficient time to make sense of that. The assets are discharged and given to the host, less expenses. Cheerful days.

How Airbnb functions

Airbnb works in 190+ Countries

How Hosts Use Airbnb

As a host, you get the opportunity to profit from the property you possess. Many sorts of individuals set up their own homes for arbitrary outsiders to utilize. For instance, you may have an additional room in your home and you need to make a smidgen of salary from it. You could lease locally, or utilize an administration like Airbnb to help lease your unused space.

Or, on the other hand maybe you travel a considerable measure and in some cases you're away for a couple of months. Rather than leaving your home unfilled and unused, you could profit off it while you are away by leasing it out to individuals who could utilize your home. In any of the cases, you can make a touch of side money with the land you possess.

To list your property on Airbnb, you'll have to agree to accept a record, be affirmed, and enter data about your property for lease. It's a genuinely simple process. Once your property is recorded, kick back and sit tight for the reservation solicitations and individual messages come through.

Much the same as how visitors can see your own profile, you can see visitor profiles too. Regularly however, the visitor might not have much to their profile, but rather you should open up a road of correspondence to see who will conceivably be experiencing your property.

Keep in mind, you are putting forth your home up to others. The greatest potential issue has have is that individuals will harm, take, or generally wreck your property. Airbnb offers $1,000,000 in harms to shield their hosts from these sorts of issues (with specific confinements and impediments).

The Pro's and Con's of Using Airbnb

It is time for all Democrats to support Medicare for All

The petition to Democrats reads:
"It is time for Democrats to go on the offensive and take bold, decisive steps towards a health care system that puts people over profits. The majority of the country supports single-payer health care. Join Sens. Sanders, Merkley and Warren and Rep. Conyers to support legislation that would extend Medicare to all Americans."

Dear Katy,

It is time for all Democrats to support Medicare for All

Last night, our activism brought Republicans' seven-year push to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to a screeching halt.1 Despite Republican majorities in both houses of Congress, Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan failed miserably at keeping their party together to move their cruel and heartless Trumpcare bill forward. Our resistance to Trumpcare stopped it three times, but the debate over health care will never really be over. Now is the time for Democrats to go on offense and fight back.

To make health care truly accessible for every American, Democrats cannot just resist Republican attacks on health care and protect the ACA. They must unite behind a bold and clear alternative like Medicare for All, also known as "single-payer" health care.2

Progressive champions Sens. Bernie Sanders, Jeff Merkley and Elizabeth Warren and Rep. John Conyers are calling on congressional Democrats to support a national single-payer health care system.3 If we want to defeat Republicans' cruel agenda once and for all and expand the modest reforms of the ACA, we must add our voices to their call now. Add your name to demand that all Democrats who run for national office stand with the progressive base of their party and publicly support Medicare for All.

Tell all Democrats running for national office: Support Medicare for All. Click here to sign the petition.

We unleashed a massive storm of progressive grassroots activism on key members of Congress to protect our health care, and it made a huge difference. Together, we showed up for protests at senators' offices, saturated social media with videos that generated tens of millions of views, deployed anti-Trumpcare billboards in five key states, and flooded the phone lines and inboxes of members of Congress with more than 70,000 calls and 650,000 petition signatures opposing Trumpcare. Sen. Warren publicly thanked CREDO members for their relentless activism, and Sen. Merkley said that CREDO was "instrumental in saving our health care."4,5 Now we must use the same grassroots power to make our goal of health care for all a reality.

It is important to be clear: The problems with health care in America are not because of the ACA. American health care costs so much and heals so little in part because predatory insurance companies and Big Pharma stand between people and their doctors and use monopoly power to rob us blind. The ACA made modest but still life-changing reforms that we should defend against Republican attacks. Millions of people have already been helped – people with pre-existing conditions, young adults who get to stay on their parents' plan, beneficiaries of the Medicaid expansion and those who would have faced lifetime caps on coverage.

Now we need to expand the ACA's reforms. Medicare for All would leave the medical system in place, but replace the for-profit insurance companies that drive up costs without making us any healthier. So it's no wonder that more than half of Americans support Medicare for All.6 Earlier this year, Rep. Conyers introduced a Medicare for All bill in the House, and for the first time ever, the majority of House Democrats are backing the bill.7 Sen. Sanders is planning to introduce a Senate version soon.

Overwhelming support for Medicare for All among members of the Democratic party is moving some of the most prominent leaders toward embracing it. Just recently, former President Jimmy Carter and former Vice President Al Gore came out in support of a single-payer national health insurance plan.8,9 Even Sen. Chuck Schumer is now indicating that "single payer" needs to be "on the table" for the agenda of the Democratic Party.10 Progressive superstars Sens. Sanders and Warren have already been barnstorming in their home states and across the country urging Democrats to embrace single-payer.11 Progressives know that we could solve today's health care crisis by expanding a program that is already up and running – and working. It is time for the rest of the Democratic party to get on board.

Tell all Democrats running for national office: Support Medicare for All. Click here to sign the petition.

Medicare already covers 40 million Americans over the age of 65, providing quality care at prices that are much lower than the private market. If we start by lowering the Medicare eligibility age, it will provide competition to bloated predatory insurance companies and bring us closer to the day when people are covered from birth.

During his campaign, Trump promised to provide "insurance for everybody." But that was just another lie. Medicare and Medicaid are our nation's most-effective and efficient health care programs, but right-wing Republicans have long had their sights set on dismantling our social safety net. Now, Trump is helping them do it. Their ultimate goal has been to end Medicare as we know it and cause skyrocketing premiums and loss of coverage for nearly 57 million of us. We cannot fight back with half-hearted, corporate solutions.

Democrats who run on Medicare for All are the only ones who can make universal coverage a reality. Help us ramp-up the pressure on all Democrats to make sure they put the full weight of their caucus behind Medicare for All.

Can pipe dreams beat pipelines?

Greenpeace

Kathleen-

Cut off dangerous tar sands pipelines at the source.

Take action!

Tell JPMorgan Chase to NOT fund dirty tar sands oil pipelines!

Take action

Tar sands oil is one of the dirtiest energy sources on the planet, producing up to 20% more carbon emissions than conventional oil. And four proposed pipelines, including Keystone XL, would carry that dirty fuel from Canada's tar sands across thousands of miles of continent to refineries and ports in Canada and the U.S. They ignore the rights of sovereign Indigenous nations and private landowners and pose dire risks for communities along their paths. But imagine if we could stop these pipelines by cutting off their funding at the source. A pipe dream, you say? It's already happening.

Just 26 global investment banks and lending institutions are responsible for the majority of funding for these proposed pipelines. U.S. banking giant, JPMorgan Chase, has contributed millions of dollars through various loans, credit facilities, and financial transactions.

And yet, JPMorgan Chase has publicly acknowledged that it must review its investments in the fossil fuel sector and that tar sands projects require an extra level of review and scrutiny. Despite these comments, it have fallen short on significantly changing its lending practices to be in-line with its climate and human rights commitments. It is time for JPMorgan Chase to put its money (or rather, not put its money) where its mouth is. Tell JPMorgan Chase to step up its commitment and to cut ties to the tar sands oil pipelines that only Trump and his fossil fuel backers want.

With your help, it can be done! The Dutch bank giant ING recently announced that it will not finance oil pipeline projects from the Canadian tar sands, placing climate, environmental, water, and social impacts among the chief justifications for its overall policy. This latest action by the bank comes after a letter was sent by twenty Indigenous and environmental groups, including Greenpeace, demanding that the bank publicly commit to end its financial relationship with the destructive tar sands pipelines.

Greenpeace is combating these disastrous pipelines on all fronts. We're on the ground mobilizing and standing in solidarity with local groups, taking the fight to banks financing climate disasters, and empowering our supporters to step up their creative action through the Summer of Resistance.

And guess what? Financial institutions are waking up to the growing movement against these pipelines and the reputational risk they face if they continue to throw their money and support behind these destructive pipelines. Keep up the resistance and send a message to JPMorgan Chase asking the bank not to fund dangerous tar sands pipelines that threaten communities and the climate.

For the people, for the planet,

Tim Donaghy
Senior Research Specialist, Greenpeace

P.S. We can win for our climate even in the Trump era. We can stop these dirty fossil fuel projects before they start by cutting off their funding. Other financial institutions have already washed their hands of oil pipeline projects. Tell JPMorgan Chase: DO NOT provide financial services for tar sands pipelines!

Greenpeace never takes a dime from corporations or governments. Everything we do is thanks to the generous support of people like you!

Dear Katy,

When Donald Trump backed out of the Paris climate agreement, it was no surprise that he cited a bogus anti-climate study funded by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, an extremist, right-wing lobby group in the pocket of Big Oil that regularly denies the science of climate change.

What is surprising, though, are the companies that continue to fund the Chamber of Commerce, including Gap, Disney and Pepsi, in complete contradiction to these companies' own public stances in favor of the Paris accord and climate action.

If Gap, Disney and Pepsi are truly committed to fighting runaway climate change, they must discontinue funding the Chamber's climate denial and end their membership immediately.

Tell Gap, Disney and Pepsi: Stop funding the anti-climate U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Click here to sign the petition.

As the nation's largest pro-business organization, the Chamber of Commerce spends more on lobbying than any other group by far. Over the last 18 years, it spent $1.2 billion in lobbying, with $104 million in just the last year.1,2 The Chamber uses its massive clout and war chest to fund Big Tobacco and oil and gas interests and prop up climate change deniers in Congress and across the country. In fact, 94 percent of the Chamber's political donations went to climate-denying candidates in the 2010 midterm elections.3

Over the last few years, dozens of major companies, including Starbucks, Unilever, Costco and General Mills, have dropped the Chamber because of its extreme views on climate change and its right-wing political spending. Yet Gap, Disney and Pepsi have remained members despite their vocal support of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Disney CEO Robert Iger even quit Trump's advisory council over the decision to withdraw from the Paris agreement, even though his company continues funding the Chamber's climate-denying agenda.4

While these three companies pay lip service to combating climate change and promote their green corporate images, it's time for them to put their money where their mouths are. We must ramp up public pressure to demand these companies do the right thing for the planet and leave the Chamber of Commerce once and for all.

Dear Katy,

Donald Trump and his Republican lapdogs are doing everything they can to sweep his Russia scandals under the rug. We have to do everything we can to keep the pressure on.

More than 170,000 CREDO members have already raised flags about Jared Kushner's top-secret security clearance given his repeated failure to disclose meetings with Russian officials. Twenty House Democrats are demanding that the FBI investigate whether Ivanka Trump "engaged in similar deception" while applying for her security clearance.1 We need to add our voices to their call.

Tell the FBI director: Investigate Ivanka Trump. Click here to sign the petition.

When Trump was applying for security clearance, the federal questionnaire required her to disclose whether she or anyone in her immediate family had foreign contacts in the last seven years. Reports have already indicated that Kushner, Trump's husband, neglected to report more than 100 contacts in his first application, including a meeting with the Russian ambassador to allegedly set up a back channel between Russians and the Trump campaign and a likely illegal meeting with Donald Trump, Jr. to get damaging information on Sec. Clinton from Russian officials.2 It is a felony to falsify or conceal information in that questionnaire.3 Now, members of Congress are concerned that Ivanka Trump may have engaged in the same reported "deception" and are demanding that the FBI investigate Trump's responses to determine if she was as deceptive on her form as her husband was.4

We need to amplify the congressional calls for full investigation of Ivanka Trump's security clearance as more and more reported evidence mounts that Trump's closest advisers and family members are embroiled in the Russia scandal.5 It is unacceptable that Kushner and Ivanka Trump have top-secret security clearances while both are maintaining high-profile public and private roles as senior White House officials and immediate members of the first family in a scandal-ridden administration. The FBI must investigate all reasonable allegations of deception while both are entangled in a massive and murky web of potential corruption under the dark cloud of a historic scandal threatening our national security interests and the foundations of our democracy.

Right-wing congressional Republicans, who only care about advancing their extremist agenda, will surely refuse to act. We must do everything we can to push the Trump administration's ties to Russia from the shadows into the light and hold them and Republican cowards accountable for undermining the integrity of our democracy.

Tell the FBI director: Investigate whether Ivanka Trump submitted false or deceptive information on her security clearance questionnaire. Click the link below to sign the petition:
