Take action

There's less than a week left to speak out for our country's national monuments! The Department of the Interior is taking public comments until Monday, July 10 and your voice is needed.

The Trump administration is currently reviewing nearly 30 national monuments — from the underwater Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument in Hawaii to the iconic Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument in Arizona — with the goal of opening up some of these lands and waters to fossil fuel drilling and other destructive activities.

RESIST Trump's anti-environment agenda, and speak out to keep our country's national monuments protected.

These national monuments were designated by past presidents to preserve places of cultural or ecological importance, and no part of them should be sacrificed for short-term profit.

Removing protections from national monuments will hurt communities. The Trump administration is ignoring the sovereignty of Indigenous nations fighting to preserve sacred sites and thousands of years of history in places like Bears Ears National Monument.

It is putting the profits of fossil fuel companies above the needs of communities who rely on recreational tourism to many of these breathtaking sites, like Grand Staircase-Escalante.

And if fossil fuel companies are allowed to operate in these monuments, the administration is complicit in pushing forward climate change that will destroy even more of these special places and cause people around the world to suffer.

Keep our national monuments protected! Make a public comment by Monday, July 10.

Over one million people have already taken action to speak out for national monuments. Will you join them?

For communities and the climate,

Mary Sweeters
Climate Campaigner, Greenpeace USA

P.S. Comments close on Monday July 10! Please make a public comment today and ask the Department of the Interior to keep our country's national monuments protected.
