Dear Katy,

Tell Bank of America and SunTrust: Stop financing family detention and mass incarceration

We just scored a huge win in the fight to take down private prisons and immigrant detention corporations. Now, we need to keep the momentum going.

In March, after years of activism, JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo committed to divest from CoreCivic, GEO Group and other corporations that make huge profits from jailing our communities.1,2 But our work is far from over.

The Trump-Miller administration is already taking steps to make its nativist mass incarceration nightmare even worse. Cutting off the flow of money to the private prison and immigrant detention industry is key to stopping its agenda. Our activism pushed JPMorgan Chase and Well Fargo to divest. Speak out now to demand that Bank of America and SunTrust follow their leads.

We now know the details of a cruel mass incarceration plan that may have driven many DHS officials to resign. Several former and current DHS employees revealed that just before Donald Trump empowered Stephen Miller to make major personnel changes at the department, the administration floated a plan to launch blitz raids in 10 U.S. cities to hunt down and arrest thousands of immigrant families, including children.3 If this is where the Trump-Miller administration is headed, we need to fight even harder to make sure it doesn't have the means to make any of its plans real.

Our activism to stop banks from financing private prisons and immigrant detention is key to blocking the Trump-Miller regime. Without the financial backing of Bank of America and SunTrust4, private prison corporations won't have the resources they need to survive, let alone build more detention centers to jail the immigrant families the Trump-Miller administration is attacking.

As part of the Families Belong Together Corporate Accountability Coalition, CREDO is doubling down on our push to get all banks to stop financing Trump's and Miller's hate. Will you join us?
