Coca-Cola is polluting our oceans

Kathleen-

I know our movement can win when people like you understand the stakes of this battle. But I want to remind you just how critical the situation is.

Plastics are filling up our oceans and killing marine life around the globe. And it's not just animals that are victims. You and I might ingest that plastic, too, when it breaks down into tiny particles that enter the food chain and our water supply. Plastic microfibers were found in 83% of tap water samples in countries around the world, and in an astonishing 94% of samples in the U.S.

You already know this is a moment for urgent action, and I'm asking you to take one more step to power all of Greenpeace's work and the movement to end corporate plastic pollution by making a gift today. It's the holiday season – I'd rather be thinking festive thoughts right now, and I'm sure you would, too. But there's one critical step we have to take first.

We know Coca-Cola is about to announce a new global policy on plastics, so now is the time to step up the pressure. Coke's new policy must set out clear commitments, targets, and timelines for it to dramatically reduce its use of single-use plastic bottles, embrace reusable packaging, and invest in developing innovative new delivery systems.

Coca-Cola says it's committed to environmental sustainability, and we intend to make sure that means reducing its dependence on throw-away plastic. I know that our movement will succeed.

Sincerely,

Jen Fela
