“I’m worried, and I think you should be too.”

Greenpeace

Kathleen -

In the wake of Trump's disastrous decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord, the need for Greenpeace's people-powered activism is critical. Yet, at this very moment, Resolute Forest Products is trying to shut us down with a trumped-up lawsuit.(1) We can't let this giant logging corporation win. We need to beat Resolute in court so we can be here in full force fighting for the environment. Will you please help by making an emergency contribution right now?

There's just a week and a day left to reach our critical funding goal of $500,000. Hitting that goal is key to our ability to fight the long legal battle against Resolute for the future of Greenpeace, as we simultaneously work to undo the damage of Trump's despicable move to abandon our country's commitments to fight climate change. Please give now to ensure we raise every dollar!

This fight is too important for us to come up short. Our forests trap carbon emissions and keep them from heating up the planet. Healthy forests are one of our best hopes at staving off climate catastrophe — so we have to stop Resolute's destructive, unsustainable logging practices. Ancient forests are vital to a healthy Earth, and we can't be silenced as we face the toughest fight of our lives to save the planet from Trump.

The good news is we've gained some new allies — writers! — adding their voices to our fight. Authors, journalists, poets and playwrights know that every time the right words are put to paper, or typed to a screen, our planet gets a little better. But without the right to express ourselves freely, we cannot make positive change. Here's how a few of them are speaking out:

"Extractive corporations and other agencies who profit from the literal destruction of the world only think in terms of fiscal quarters. They are looters working with sickening speed and efficiency. Before global climate change drew contempt and denial from the poorly informed and profit addicted, Greenpeace was on the front line, standing down these enemies of the earth, at 100% risk to their lives. Now is not the time to be silent." — Singer, Songwriter, and Author, Henry Rollins

"The endings of The Handmaid's Tale, 1984 and Brave New World are written. Ours is not. This is a chance to stand up for freedom of speech, the freedom to advocate for change, and the freedom to question authority, and to strengthen their protection under law. As a society, we need a positive outcome to this story." — author Margaret Atwood

"The right to speak truth to power is the foundation of democracy and must be vigilantly protected and defended. Now more than ever." — author Michelle Alexander

Thanks to you and them, we've gotten a whole lot louder. But you don't need to be a wordsmith to be a part of this fight. Your gift right now will support free speech, our right to protest, to expose the truth and win justice. We've already raised over half of our $500,000 goal. Please help us get the rest of the way there — for the sake of forests, the climate and our entire movement. Thank you for your partnership.

For the climate and free speech,

P.S. We must stop Resolute's destructive, unsustainable logging of ancient forests, and we must win in court so Greenpeace can be here in full force to fight for forests, the climate, and our communities. Give by June 16 to reach our goal!
