Invest in the future of the planet

Kathleen-

Invest in the future of the planet!

Our oceans are choking on plastic.

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch, an agglomeration of floating plastic trash, covers more than 600,000 square miles — and there are four more in other parts of the world that are nearly as big.

We need to keep this poisonous plastic pollution out of our oceans. We can do that … if you help us.

You, Kathleen, have already done a lot! Just yesterday, we delivered tens of thousands of messages to Trader Joe's headquarters to demand the grocer do its part to stop ocean plastic pollution, hundreds called Trader Joe's to further press our cause, and many of you joined us at beach cleanups throughout the country. Together, we've amplified our collective voice. We've raised public awareness about the urgent problem of plastic pollution and turned up the heat on the big brands causing this mess.

The best way to support Greenpeace's fight to end throwaway plastic and everything we do for the environment is to become a sustaining member.

Become a Greenpeace member now, and invest in the future of the planet.

This movement is growing every day. Towns, cities and counties across the country are banning plastic shopping bags and straws. And, Kroger, one of the largest grocery-store chains in the world, has committed to phasing out single-use plastic shopping bags.

Much of the credit for a lot of this progress goes to the Greenpeace action agents like you who protested, boycotted, and shamed companies by posting photos of unnecessary plastic packaging. Without this constant pressure, there would have been no governmental action and no corporate concessions.

But our work is far from over. We won't rest until plastic bags, wrappers, containers, and abusive plastic packaging are all a thing of the past. We've come this far, and we can go much farther … but only if you stand with us once again. Be one of the more than 2,000 committed members. Join Greenpeace and support all our critical work. The oceans are counting on you.

For a plastic-free world,

Kate Melges
Oceans Campaigner, Greenpeace USA

P.S. I wasn't exaggerating when I called plastic pollution "poisonous." The plastic trash floating on the ocean doesn't decompose or biodegrade. It just breaks into tiny particles of plastic that enter into the food chain when fish and other sea creatures accidentally ingest them. We took seawater samples along the East Coast, the West Coast, and the Antarctic … and found microplastics in every single one. Microplastics have been found in U.S. drinking water supplies, and in human waste. We are literally poisoning ourselves. Help us keep up the pressure on those companies responsible for this horrendous state of affairs, help us end single-use plastic pollution completely, and support all our important work. Become a Greenpeace member now.

Greenpeace never takes a dime from corporations or governments. Everything we do is thanks to the generous support of people like you!
