I was just arrested — here’s why

Ebony at Capitol with sign: Stop Manchin's #DirtyDeal

Kathleen —

Yesterday we showed up — for our families, for our communities, and for our movement. I joined executive directors from eleven environmental justice organizations, and staged a sit-in on Capitol Hill. We put our hearts and bodies on the line to call for action in this critical moment for the future of our planet.

We know that the window for defeating the Dirty Deal is quickly closing, so we brought the urgency directly to our elected officials. Early yesterday afternoon, climate leaders blocked the entrance to a Senate building and demanded immediate action. Opposition to this so-called 'dirty deal' is widespread and growing, and we brought that message directly to the doorstep of those with the power to shut it down. After peacefully calling for Senators Schumer and Manchin to stop the Dirty Deal, all of us were arrested.

We will not stop holding our leaders accountable until they kill the bill. Make a donation today to support all of our work to protect people and the planet.

On September 30, Congress will vote on the resolution package that may include Senator Manchin's Dirty Deal. We have a little over a week to demand that our elected officials choose people over corporate greed, and shut Manchin's door to expanding fossil fuel production. We cannot let a back-room deal endanger our communities, public lands, and the future of our planet.

We need to stop the Dirty Deal NOW. Will you make a donation to help shut down Manchin's fossil-fueled wish list?

Yesterday's sit-in demonstrated unity and alignment across the climate movement. We know that we can win. So far, 77 members of the House have signed a letter showing their support for justice over fossil fuels — but it is going to take the continued pressure of our united movement to defeat Manchin's Dirty Deal.

The time is NOW — we need to join together and demand the Senate reject the Dirty Deal. Will you make a donation today so that we can keep up the pressure and demand that our representatives stand up for their constituents?

The fight for a green and peaceful future would not be possible without Greenpeace supporters like you.

In solidarity,
