Dear Katy, Wayfair is selling beds to concentration camps.1 The Trump administration is detaining, abusing and stripping away the basic rights and dignity of hundreds of thousands of migrant families. Six children have died as a result of overcrowded and inhumane conditions in detention facilities.2 There is a humanitarian crisis happening at our border. And yet, Wayfair is profiting from and enabling Trump's racism and xenophobia. In June, Wayfair employees walked out to demand that Wayfair stop enabling, supporting and profiting from the suffering of people seeking asylum and the concentration camps imprisoning them.3 Add your name now to amplify their demands and show them that we have their backs. Corporations like Wayfair are helping keep migrant children and families in cages. Wayfair sold more than $200,000 in bedroom furniture to a detention center for migrant children in Texas. The order was to BCFS, a contractor managing concentration camps at the southern border. The order was for bedroom furniture destined for a camp in Carrizo Springs, Texas that will hold 3,000 migrant children seeking asylum in the United States. 4 Wayfair employees are demanding that CEO Niraj Shah and company executives own up to their participation in this mass cruelty. A letter signed by over 550 Wayfair employees stated "we believe by selling these or any products to BCFS and similar contractors we are enabling this violation and are complicit in furthering the inhumane actions of our government." 5 Wayfair employees are also demanding that company leadership: - Donate $86,000 in profit from the BCFS order to RAICES, a non-profit that provides free and low-cost legal services to immigrants in Texas.
- Cease all current and future business with BCFS and any other contractors participating in the operation of migrant concentration camps and to establish a code of ethics for sales.
Wayfair needs to listen to its workers and customers. Profiting from the cruel and inhumane detention of migrant children and workers is against the values of hundreds of Wayfair employees and millions of customers who keep the company alive. We need to use our power as consumers to make sure Wayfair executives hear their employee's demands loud and clear.
