But the reward for the hard work of our nation's more than 2 million domestic workers is low wages, harassment, unsafe work conditions, discrimination and even abuse.1 Eight states already have laws on the books protecting domestic workers, but being protected should not depend on where you live. That's why progressive champions Rep. Pramila Jayapal and Sen. Kamala Harris, working with our friends at the National Domestic Workers Alliance, plan to introduce the Federal Domestic Workers Bill of Rights as soon as the next Congress meets in January.2 We need to make sure that women, people of color and low-income workers are at the top of the Democratic agenda come January – which means speaking up right now while leaders are setting priorities. Domestic workers often make less than the minimum wage and rarely get healthcare coverage or any sort of retirement plan. Without protection, their employers can hurl racial slurs or abuse, force them to work odd hours without breaks or sick days and refuse to protect their safety.3 The Federal Domestic Workers Bill of Rights helps in two ways. First, it would extend labor laws to domestic workers. They would get Occupational Safety and Health Administration protections, help in cases of discrimination or harassment, the right to overtime pay, and the ability to form unions.4 Second, the bill would extend essential new protections – like retirement savings, affordable health care, training and development and the right to meal breaks, rest breaks, paid sick days, federal agency protections, contracts on paper, privacy and knowledge about their schedules in advance. These powerful protections could set a new standard for all contingent workers, from Amazon warehouse "contractors" to ride-share drivers.5 Because domestic workers are exempt from basic labor laws, they are a target for abuse and exploitation. And because they are predominantly women of color in a white supremacist society they have a hard time getting the attention and help they deserve. Sign the petition: Hold Trump's corrupt former Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke accountable

Tell House Democrats: Investigate Ryan Zinke The petition to House Democrats reads: "Former Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke waged war on our environment, violated federal rules and was mired in unethical behavior. Use your power to hold Zinke accountable and open investigations." Add your name: Dear Katy, Thanks to the powerful resistance by CREDO members and our progressive allies, Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke was forced to resign amid multiple legal and ethical scandals that mired his tenure in government.1 But that shouldn't mean Zinke, who allegedly used his office to enrich himself while launching attacks on public lands and the environment, is off the hook for his role in potential criminal activity. Rep. Raul Grijalva, progressive champion and incoming chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, has signaled plans to conduct official oversight hearings on Zinke's misdeeds in the Trump administration.2 For far too long, corrupt individuals in power, from government officials to Wall Street CEOs, have been given a free pass or a slap on the wrist for their unethical or criminal behavior. This must end now. We must ensure Rep. Grijalva's colleagues have the political will to stand with him and hold Zinke accountable. The number of investigations Zinke faced while in office was more than the last four interior secretaries combined. The actions federal watchdogs have looked at or are looking into include Zinke's threats to a sitting senator, illegal use of a private jet, the removal of references to climate change in scientific reports and multiple violations of the Hatch Act, a law that prohibits executive branch employees from engaging in political activity.3 The most serious allegation against Zinke, about which Rep. Grijalva is most interested, involves a shady, self-enriching and potentially illegal land deal in Montana with the former CEO of oil services giant Halliburton.4 While this case has reportedly been referred to the Department of Justice for review, Congress must also fulfill its duty to conduct independent and thorough oversight, especially given Trump's meddling in personnel and other matters at the DOJ. Activism to hold Zinke accountable has already proven effective. Zinke's resignation came after more than 114,000 CREDO activists and our progressive allies mounted a massive public pressure campaign to hold Zinke accountable, resulting in his resignation. We now must hold Zinke accountable again. Add your name: Dear Katy, Donald Trump's Big Pharma friends are once again proving that his grand promises are lies. Big Pharma just announced that price hikes on essential medicine are coming in January 2019.1 Every elected Democrat highlights Trump's hypocrisy on drug prices. But only some Democrats – the progressive wing of the Party – have real, innovative solutions. A new bill from Rep. Jan Schakowsky and Sen. Elizabeth Warren would break up Big Pharma cartels – if they jack up prices and limit access – by publicly manufacturing pharmaceutical drugs.2 It is a smart and bold approach that sets the agenda for the Democratic Party moving forward - and it deserves our urgent support. Millions of Americans with diabetes rely on pharmaceutical insulin – yet Big Pharma monopolies have tripled its price. It is a perfect example of the way the generic pharmaceutical drug system is broken. Generics – the same drug, but without the name brand – are supposed to be available at a lower cost after a set period of time. But anyone who has been to a pharmacy in the last few years knows generic drugs are not always as cheap as Big Pharma wants us to believe.3 Big Pharma monopolies will buy up exclusive rights to generic drug and jack up the price. In some cases, no company will produce a badly needed medicine – or a handful of companies will control the market and line their pockets by charging desperate people more money.4 It's not ok. Their plan would kick in if no one is manufacturing a drug, if only one or two companies control production and jack up the price, or if Big Pharma raises prices on a World Health Organization "essential medicine." In these cases, the government would have the power to manufacture the drug directly – skipping the profit-making middleman killing and bankrupting America.5 The Schakowsky-Warren bill complements other progressive proposals that CREDO members support. We need every good idea on the table, and we need to show a massive outpouring of support for the ones that boldly take on Big Pharma's monopoly power.
