I’m not optimistic — but I am hopeful.

Hi, Kathleen, after over 50 years of activism, I can tell you exactly how major social change happens.

It takes millions of individuals organizing in the streets and putting people in the halls of power with open ears to hear our demands for the future and open minds to act on them instead of merely operating under the outdated, ineffective status quo.

They've lobbied elected leaders to block plastic packaging bans and stronger consumer protections for decades — all to protect profits while their toxic products fill our ecosystems and our bodies. As those same companies rake in $20 billion worth of annual tax subsidies, we the people are literally paying for them to continue killing us.

And without collective action by 2030 to end fossil fuel reliance and adopt renewable energy and reusable goods on a mass scale, I'm not optimistic for our planet's survival — especially if Greenpeace USA doesn't have the resources to withstand Big Oil's $300 million lawsuit and keep campaigning for the climate solutions we need.

Continued, collective action is key to climate hope. That's why I fight with Greenpeace USA.

This holiday season, we’re grateful for you.

Today, Kathleen, we're giving thanks for you.

Back when a handful of brave activists first set sail to protest nuclear testing, no one could have predicted that Greenpeace would become a global movement.

But as the threats to our future have grown as quickly as the corporate greed that's driven them over the last half-century, the network hasn't just expanded across the world.

Together, we've changed it.

Our movement has come together not only to stop nuclear testing, but to ban commercial whaling, protect the Arctic, pass the Global Oceans Treaty — the strongest climate agreement in history — and so much more.
