By now, you know that Energy Transfer (ET), the oil company behind the Dakota Access Pipeline, is suing Greenpeace USA for $300 million under the false and racist claim we masterminded the 2016-17 Indigenous-led Standing Rock resistance. But we have to ask, Kathleen: do you fully understand what's at stake if the court sides with Big Oil in February? ET would have you think that calling out the impacts of their greedy business model amounts to advancing an "extremist agenda," when it's simply what science demands and what our planet deserves. 3. We did NOT organize or direct the Standing Rock protest. But if you take ET's word for it, our vocal, unapologetic support for the peaceful protesters who were involved is enough to point the blame at us for everything that happened, under a toxic new standard of "collective liability."  So if the Court awards Energy Transfer the $300 MILLION judgment they're after, it won't just be Greenpeace USA that suffers the effects — it'll establish a basis that entitles Big Oil bullies to legally silence anybody who speaks out for the planet or the people they harm.
