We won't put an end to plastic pollution if we don't stop producing it.

| | | Kathleen — | Solving the global problem of plastic pollution is a lost cause if we don't stop producing it in the first place. Despite what big corporations might want you to believe, our research shows that recycling actually INCREASES the toxicity of plastic. | This rampant pollution is one of the biggest threats facing our Earth right now — and we need leaders across the globe to take action if we want to have any chance at slowing down the destruction. | This action couldn't be more important. I wanted to make sure you had a chance to read our latest report, on the science on health threats from plastic recycling, so you can truly understand everything we're facing: | | From May 29 to June 2, activists, experts, and staff from around the world and across the vast Greenpeace network will come together in Paris for the next round of negotiations for a strong Global Plastics Treaty. We know that the corporate polluters and petrochemical giants will be pushing recycling as the solution, but we cannot recycle our way out of this crisis. The ONLY real solution is to produce less plastic in the first place. If we're going to be heard over the voices of the industry, we'll need you standing with us. As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, "We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly." | We have to build a diverse coalition united around this common goal. It's going to take all of us demanding change to really put decision-makers' feet to the fire — so we hope you'll give this report a read and be ready to stand with us against the corrupt corporations poisoning our communities and our Earth. | As a 100% independent, people-powered movement, we will not win without the support of Greenpeacers like you — thank you so much for your continued support, and for joining us in demanding a Global Plastics Treaty that will slow down the effects of the climate destruction we're calling attention to in reports like this one. | | Thank you for standing with us. | Ebony Twilley Martin Greenpeace USA, Executive Director | | | | | | |
