Kathleen — The dismissal last month of the $100 million SLAPP suit filed against us by Resolute Forest Products marks a major victory for our movement. Your unwavering support empowered us to stand firm against Resolute's desperate, abusive attempts to silence this movement and shut us down. But now, another SLAPP suit from Energy Transfer is looming on the horizon, and we absolutely refuse to back down — so I'm here in your inbox asking you to stand up against these corporate bullies, too. KEEP UP THE FIGHT See, Kathleen — the mere filing of a lawsuit of this magnitude is meant to intimidate (or bankrupt) grassroots advocates like you and I into silence. So we took on this fight because we knew we had to win — we can't let corporations use these tactics to silence us. Corporations like Resolute and Energy Transfer want us silent because when we call out behavior that puts our planet and our communities at risk, people listen. But their attempts to silence us will only make us louder. Energy Transfer, the operator of the Dakota Access Pipeline, is suing us for allegedly orchestrating the Indigenous-led movement at Standing Rock. Thankfully, this laughable, baseless claim won't hold up to scrutiny — I know we can win this too. But as a 100% independent, grassroots-funded movement, we need to be able to count on your support to beat these lawsuits, and get back to work — fighting in solidarity with our planet, and with every creature that calls it home.
