I'm honored to reintroduce myself to you as the new Executive Director of Greenpeace USA. As we enter this new season, I don't have to tell you that our country and our climate are in crisis. In fact, our very right to hold the corporations that are destroying our planet accountable to the people is under attack. Some of you know that Greenpeace has been locked in years-long litigation with corporations who are harassing us with Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPPs). These lawsuits are baseless, expensive, and are designed to silence our free speech – and by extension – silence yours. They want to stop us from exposing the damage they're doing to our planet and our future. Their ultimate goal? To shut us down entirely. In fact, that's exactly what happens to people and organizations who don't have the resources to endure costly legal battles when faced with a SLAPP suit. Here's what we know: Unless we protect the right to speak truth to power, we cannot advocate for a greener and more just world. No one can. On April 20th, our legal team will be back in court to fight back against these corporate schemes. We aren't just fighting these suits for Greenpeace - we're fighting them for everyone who depends on the right to speak out for our people and our planet. We know that you'll be there with us in spirit. It's an honor to partner with supporters like you to help create a world that works for all living beings. I do this work joyfully because I chose to dedicate my life to empowering families all over this country to advocate for their communities – and hold the powerful accountable. Our tomorrow – my children's tomorrow – ALL our children's tomorrow – depends upon the actions we take today. We have to choose to take action today. Onward, Ebony Twilley Martin, Executive Director, Greenpeace USA |
