Ahead of World Oceans Day, I've got a question to ask you. ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏
| | | Quick question, Kathleen: would you eat plastic soup? | Me neither! But with up to 12 million metric tons of plastic waste entering them each year, it's what our oceans have become. | While we may not scoop up seawater with a spoon, every level of the ocean food chain is full to the brim with microplastics that eventually make their way into us. And if you and I can't tolerate it, our oceans (and the creatures that call it home) shouldn't have to either. | But as they don't have a voice, it's on us to use ours and demand corporate polluters clean up their act. Greenpeace USA is the only 100% independent organization fighting for our oceans' plastic-free future, but we can't win the fight alone — so please, in honor of World Oceans Day this Saturday, will you make a gift of $10 or more to help us shut off the poisoning of our planet like our oceans? | | Another question for you — how come corporations package single-use items out of materials that last forever? | If I had to guess, it'd be because Big Polluters like Coca-Cola, Nestlé, Unilever, and more aren't thinking through the consequences of their actions. But when regular individuals like us make mistakes, intentional or not, we have to take accountability — so it's outrageous that billion-dollar industrial giants can keep passing the buck onto us. | Greenpeace USA knows that greed-fueled megacorporations own the lion's share of responsibility for the dire state of our seas, and we're fighting tooth and nail to stop these polluters from poisoning them with single-use plastics any further. Our oceans deserve better. | But to win that better, bluer, plastic-free future, Greenpeace USA must take on Big Polluters who can drown out our message with greenwashed lies — all while we rely entirely on the help of grassroots environmental champions like you. So Kathleen, ahead of our $50,000 World Oceans Day goal we need to hit this Saturday, I have one last question: | Will you please chip in $10, $20, or anything you can spare to help us turn the tides? With your support before the end of June 8, we can create a massive wave of change — for our oceans, for marine life, and for the coastal communities above the surface whose futures depend on them. | | Thank you for all you do in the fight for our oceans' plastic-free future.
