Success!

Greenpeace

Kathleen-

Greenpeace's supporters have set the bar even higher!

I am so excited to bring you some good news. We set ourselves a 2017 fundraising goal of $3.25 million, and our committed, generous donors came through. So far, we've counted $3.14 million, and the checks are still coming in. I know that we not only met the goal, we beat it!

The wonderful outpouring of support was the perfect ending to a tumultuous 2017. It was far too easy to become disheartened last year, when everything Trump and Congress did seemed designed to hurt Americans, roll back the Obama administration's progress, and lay waste to our beautiful natural resources.

But I also saw the good things, starting with the Women's Marches held around the world on the day after Trump's inauguration. Millions of people came together and said, "We are not going to take this lying down. We are going to RESIST."

And I saw that spirit all year, here in the U.S. and around the world. I saw it when hundreds of thousands poured into the streets to challenge Trump's attacks on science and action to stop polluting the climate. I saw it when years of public pressure paid off and the largest tuna company in the world committed to far reaching measures to protect ocean life, and when you supercharged our new efforts to stop corporate plastic pollution. I saw it in the activists and supporters across the globe who joined us to oppose offshore oil drilling: millions of people from the Atlantic Coast to the Arctic, from the mouth of the Amazon to Southern Australia and New Zealand and beyond, stood together to say no to drilling in our oceans.

I saw that spirit in the members of the groups we worked with to help the people and communities of Puerto Rico recover from Hurricane Maria. I saw it in the Indigenous-led movement which protested the Energy Transfer Partners' Dakota Access pipeline, stood up to the Keystone XL pipeline, and joined the swelling movement successfully convincing financial institutions not to finance tar sands pipelines.

And even as Greenpeace's very existence has been threatened — when Resolute Forest Products and Energy Transfer Partners used Trump's go-to law firm to attack us with bogus lawsuits — I saw YOU holding the line with us. You refused to be silenced and you were vindicated when a California judge dismissed all of Resolute's claims. And I know that despite Energy Transfer Partner's lawsuit trying to make sure our movement stops fighting pipelines, we'll work harder than ever in 2018.

Most gratifying of all, I saw the energy of people like you, Kathleen, who support Greenpeace and all the crucial work we do. You've undoubtedly heard this before, but we can't say it enough: Greenpeace rejects all forms of government and corporate funding. We do this to remain independent and avoid the tainted influence of special interests. All the work we do is funded by people like you. Our group's continuing existence is a testament to the idea that ordinary people can and will make a difference.

We will hold the line. We will push back. We will uproot corruption, expose the lies, and right the wrongs. We will protect the oceans and see to it that polluters are held accountable. We will protect our nation from the oil industry and its lackeys in Washington. We will be strong. We will not be dissuaded. We will win!

Sincerely,

Annie Leonard
Executive Director, Greenpeace USA

P.S. If you didn't get a chance to donate in 2017, please renew your support for the movement with a 2018 gift today — your gift could be the one that puts us over $3.25 million! This is a people-powered movement, and you should be proud of the work we are doing together.

Greenpeace never takes a dime from corporations or governments. Everything we do is thanks to the generous support of people like you!
