 | | |  | | Kathleen — in honor of Greenpeace Week 2024, I'd like to share a story: | | It all began during the height of the Cold War, when world powers unscrupulously engaged in nuclear testing on remote islands, even as public outcry grew impossible to ignore. | | Fifty-three years ago today, the Greenpeace founders set sail to bear witness to these tests on an earthquake-prone Alaskan island. Though they were forced to turn back, upon docking at home, the team returned to shore as new heroes of the global environmental movement. | | We've held climate culprits accountable and uplifted the communities on the front lines of their greed-fueled destruction ever since — and it's only been possible thanks to the committed Greenpeacers powering us onward each step of the way. | | Power the fight another fifty three years and beyond this Greenpeace Week by starting a monthly gift! Your first gift may be matched dollar-for-dollar! | | | | But as we celebrate over half a century of courageous climate advocacy, we're facing new challenges — from fighting ever-growing plastic pollution, to getting the Global Oceans treaty ratified worldwide, and now, defending ourselves from a $300 MILLION lawsuit that leaves the future of everyone's right to protest corporate bad actors on the line. | | That's why I'm coming to you on the anniversary of our launch, with an urgent SOS: | | See, recurring contributions are key to sustaining the fight for our planet in the courtrooms, decision rooms, and on the high seas — let alone keeping the lights on at HQ. | | But I just spoke to the finance team, and monthly donations have drastically declined.
