Important update for Kathleen
|
| Kathleen, I have an important update about Energy Transfer's $300 million lawsuit against Greenpeace, and I'm hoping to share it with you directly next week. Please RSVP if you can join me on Zoom on Thursday, May 9th at 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT to discuss this existential threat to our movement and learn how you can help: In less than 90 days, Greenpeace goes to trial in North Dakota against a $300 million lawsuit from Energy Transfer, the Big Oil company behind the infamous Dakota Access Pipeline. The stakes of this trial are incredibly high — but Kathleen, this isn't just about Greenpeace. It's much more than that. Energy Transfer sued us because we dared to uplift the Indigenous-led opposition movement at Standing Rock in 2017. Their goal is to destroy Greenpeace and set a legal precedent that quells every American's right to protest against environmental harms. That's right, Kathleen: Energy Transfer is trying to permanently weaken and silence the entire climate justice movement by weaponizing the U.S. legal system. Throughout Earth Month, we spoke a lot about the unprecedented challenges of this moment in history. A moment when global temperatures continue to rise, plastic pollution is everywhere we look, and the most vulnerable among us are suffering the consequences every day. Energy Transfer knows that this is the moment when our people-powered movement is most vital. They know that their $300 million lawsuit threatens our ability to take on these challenges, and they're convinced that they can silence us for good. Kathleen, the best tool we have right now is our unity. Please join me on Zoom next week to learn what Greenpeace is doing to fight back and how you can help. We've been fighting Energy Transfer's bogus lawsuit since 2017, but thanks to supporters like you we've never had to slow down our work campaigning for a green and peaceful future. With your help, we will show Big Oil that no amount of money can silence our movement. In solidarity, Ebony Twilley Martin Executive Director, Greenpeace USA | | |
