FIRST: In the first eight months of 2023 alone, the United States saw 23 separate billion-dollar natural disasters — including two floods, two tornadoes, and the deadly Hawaiian wildfire — which cost 253 lives and over $57.6 BILLION in damages.
THEN: Expert climate scientists declared that 2023 was the HOTTEST year on record — and stressed that ambitious climate action has never been more urgent.
