Succession's Greenpeace storyline mirrors reality just a little too close for comfort.

| | | Hi, Kathleen — James Cromwell here, writing to you from aboard Greenpeace's Rainbow Warrior ship! | You might know me from my parts in Babe, Six Feet Under, W. or plenty others, but I'd like to share a link between real life and my role as Ewan in Succession — brother to a power-hungry CEO of a media empire. My character, too disgusted with the operation to play a part, willed his $250 million inheritance to Greenpeace — who was then sued by his bratty grandson. | Sadly, that storyline mirrors reality in a way that's just a little too close for comfort. | Currently, Greenpeace USA is getting sued for $300 million, all for daring to step up and speak out against real-life Big Oil villain Energy Transfer. Energy Transfer claims that Greenpeace entities organized the Standing Rock resistance against the Dakota Access Pipeline — a false and racist attempt to erase Indigenous leadership from this historic protest. | Much like my character Ewan, I know the value of this movement and its fearless grassroots work. It's never been more urgent that they withstand this latest threat — one that could shut down Greenpeace in the United States. The only way we can defeat this lawsuit is by coming together to support Greenpeace, so please, will you rush anything you can to help me keep Greenpeace USA's climate advocacy afloat? | | Now, that's not the only reason I call myself a Greenpeacer — just like you, I'm sick of Big Oil CEOs poisoning the planet and harming all forms of life for profits. | I've spent my life advocating for animal welfare, free speech, and ending the greed-fueled destruction of our planet. I've been targeted for daring to speak out and even arrested for protesting more times than I can count. And let me tell you, Kathleen — it's all been worth it. | That's why I fight alongside Greenpeace USA: I'm even writing this aboard the Rainbow Warrior as they're docked in Honolulu for the Protect the Oceans campaign. Thanks to supporters like us, the Greenpeace fleet can sail worldwide to the front lines of the climate crisis, bear witness to its effects on communities and creatures alike, and speak truth to greedy corporate bad actors who've put us in this position to begin with. Will you stand with me for the future of Greenpeace USA and our planet? | | It is because of us that they can undertake the bold action and advocacy our planet deserves and desperately needs — so in the face of those same bad actors threatening the future of both Greenpeace USA and our planet, they need all of us to help keep the fight alive. | Please, Kathleen, before midnight on August 31, will you join me in fueling the fight for the future of Greenpeace USA, our planet, and ourselves by rushing a gift of $10 or anything you can spare? | | James Cromwell Actor, animal rights activist, and fellow Greenpeacer | | | | | | |
