Nothing any individual does alone will be enough to end this crisis.

It's going to take all of us putting in the work for the change our planet needs. ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏
| | | Kathleen — | In the fight against the climate crisis, the actions we take as individuals — whether recycling, limiting our disposable plastics usage, biking short distances over driving, meal prepping to limit waste, or other small acts of courageous resistance — are always worthwhile. | But what really gets me fired up is that nothing any one of us does alone will be enough to end this crisis. Did you know that in 2021, the United States only recycled a mere 5% of plastics produced? Since over 99% of plastics come from fossil fuels, they're too toxic to recycle into food packaging and other products. At this rate, it wouldn't even make a dent in the almost 14 million tons leaked into our oceans each year, let alone the 75-199 million tons already there. | I don't let this discourage me. In fact, it shows me that what's most important is that individual advocates — like me, and like you, Kathleen — work in unity to hit Big Polluters where it hurts (right in the profits), force world leaders to take real action to curb every stage of the toxic plastics life cycle, and build real, lasting change. | And as a 100%-independent global network fighting to end the climate crisis, Greenpeace USA can wield our collective power every day to preserve a liveable planet for ourselves and the next generation. | With advocates of all ages, all races, and from all locations, our network is uniquely poised to seize on the enormous opportunities that lie ahead: from a strong global plastics treaty, to a ban on new fossil fuel extraction, and even getting critical legislation, that stops corporations from suing movements like ours into silence, across the finish line. | But Greenpeace USA's proven track record of success is only thanks to the grassroots Greenpeacers like you powering the collective fight for our future — so please, donate any amount now to help us keep up the fight, for as long as it takes to win. | | Thanks for fighting alongside us, Leslie Allen Chief Development Officer, Greenpeace USA | | | | | | |
