Kathleen — did you get Deepa's email from Friday about our critical battle to shut down SLAPP suits? |
In case you missed it, we're still fending off one from Energy Transfer, the operators of the Dakota Access Pipeline. |
Their federal case was thrown out back in 2020, but they've followed it up in state court because their goal is to consume our resources and distract us from our powerful work. We're forwarding Deepa's email below, but if you're short on time, here's what you need to know: These lawsuits are meant to drain climate activists like us of money, energy, and morale. |
As we continue battling Energy Transfer's lengthy litigation, we're counting on your continued support to come out on top. So please, Kathleen — will you rush $20 or more to help us keep fighting in the courthouse, the front lines, or anywhere else Big Polluters threaten our right to speak up for our planet's defense? |

| | | Dear Kathleen — | Greenpeace is one of the most powerful global networks of campaigning organizations that uses peaceful protest and creative communication to bear witness to environmental pollution and hold polluters accountable. | So it's no wonder why the world's worst corporate polluters, hell-bent on silencing our voices and limiting our impact, target Greenpeacers' work for their most insidious attacks. | Right now, our planet isn't the sole victim of their greed-driven destruction — they're attacking the bedrock of democracy, too. SLAPPs, or "Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation," are a key tool for megacorporations to silence any free speech they don't like. | Big Polluters have tried to bully and intimidate us with these lawsuits countless times, but they've never shut us up. And as long as you're with us in the fight for a greener, peaceful and more just planet, they never will. | I walked through the doors of Greenpeace USA 12 years ago because I truly believed in its mission. I never could have imagined that a few years later, my career would become dedicated to protecting our fundamental right to free speech. | When it comes to everyone's right to freely speak out for our only planet, we'll always go to bat with greedy corporations in court. Thanks to support from Greenpeacers like you, they quickly discover that we don't back down from a fight. | But Greenpeacer, while we've won many battles against Big Corporate Polluters, the journey to keep climate advocacy alive is never over. You need to know exactly what we're up against — so click here to get informed about our history of defeating corporate lawsuits, and how we're preparing for future legal fights for our planet. | | Thank you for standing with us — Deepa Padmanabha Deputy General Counsel, Greenpeace USA | | | | | | |
