Kathleen — The health of our planet and the health of our democracy are inextricably linked. A strong democracy should be the best tool for advancing climate solutions, but in the U.S., fossil fuel interests, extremist politicians, and corporate greed have hijacked our political system. Big oil is threatening the fabric of our democracy. To keep us silent and stall climate action, the fossil fuel industry has funded politicians who support voter suppression, insurrectionists, climate deniers — and attempts to criminalize peaceful protest. Help Greenpeace USA keep up the fight for a thriving planet and strong democracy with your donation today. This goes deeper than the #DirtyDeal that Senator Manchin still hopes to push through to fast-track fossil fuels. There are currently 139 elected officials in Congress who refuse to acknowledge the scientific evidence of human-caused climate change. These same 139 members have received more than $61 million in lifetime contributions from the coal, oil, and gas industries. We will not be silent. We will continue to resist. Millions of people — especially in Black and Brown communities — are blocked from participating in our democracy because of restrictions on voting rights and the corroding influence of fossil fuel dollars in politics. Big oil has funded political sponsors of state-level voter suppression bills, and politicians who voted against federal voting rights legislation. They are determined to silence our voices and suppress the power of the people. We can't let them. Everyone should have an equal say in the decisions that shape our future. With your support we will continue to amplify a climate and people-centered message to challenge the politicians that are deciding our future. We will continue to call out the corporate polluters threatening our democracy, and we will continue to fight voter suppression efforts attempting to silence us. We will never back down, or stop speaking truth to power. With your support we will keep up the fight for the future we all deserve. In solidarity, Folabi Olagbaju Democracy Campaign Director, Greenpeace USA |
