Meanwhile, some leading Democratic presidential candidates are dragging their feet when it comes to bold climate solutions. Many candidates have taken a position to support a Green New Deal, commit to ambitious timelines for 100% renewable energy, ban fracking, hold the fossil fuel industry accountable for driving the climate crisis, and tackle environmental racism. But while former Vice President Joe Biden is leading in the polls, he is falling extremely short on climate.1 Biden's climate plans so far have ranged from vague and undetailed to straight-up harmful. Commit to investigating the fossil fuel industry's role in causing the climate crisis and misleading the public about it. Support a national end to fracking for oil and gas. Respect their commitment to the spirit of the No Fossil Fuel Money pledge by rejecting campaign funds and campaign advice from fossil fuel executives and lobbyists and their corporate PACs. Release a plan for advancing climate justice that takes the unequal impact of environmental racism into account. As we go into 2020, we have to hold Biden and all democratic candidates to a higher standard. Our families, communities and environment depend on it.
